Recent Review on Processes of Degradation and Separation of Furosemide in Wastewater

Emerging pharmaceutical pollutants are a potential threat to living beings and humanity. The concentrations of these pollutants in water are growing rapidly due to the increase in the number of consumers of these pharmaceutical products. This study is a review of methods and processes for the removal of furosemide from aqueous discharges. The study showed that most degradation processes are very effective against furosemide dissolved in water. However, some processes are sensitive to the pH of the solution and to the presence of chemical entities in solution. Others show modest efficacy when the furosemide is in the solid crystal state. Therefore, we will review the main degradation or separation processes of furosemide in wastewater.
